Arumvale

An elegant country house situated in a lush green valley with outstanding views looking up to the majestic Langeberg mountains , surrounded by tranquil cow pastures a mere 3km from the village of Swellendam.

Arumvale has beautiful gardens filled with birdsong , guests are invited to pick their own fruit and vegetables in season , and children are asked to collect their own eggs from the chicken house.

Accommodation is in self-catering private guest suites with separate entrances and patios and two standalone private cottages, all with their own wood & charcoal stocked weber braais.

All but the Samantha room have open fireplaces in the living rooms.

Named after the Arum Lily which grow in the lei water on the property

Meet the Hosts

George and Bev Missing are the owners and operators of Arumvale Country Guesthouse. Ably assisted by Carol (the Mother in Law, Samantha, Privy, Erica and Thabang - and most importantly the resident loving "meet and greet" Lilly the Staffordshire Terrier.

A rich history

George and Bev have been living in Swellendam since 2004 after developing a very successful 26 roomed boutique hotel and restaurant called Cranberry Cottage on the Lesotho/Eastern Free State border - which they owned and ran for fourteen years (exhaustion
set in and they escaped to Swellendam after selling the business in 2004.

Bev

Bev is the brand founder and product developer for the body and bath product brand Rain which had its humble beginnings in 1998 in the garage of Cranberry Cottage employing two women, and which now employs 170 people. Bev also runs a small travel company called Expedition Curiosity taking guests to all the places she knows and loves around the globe.

George

George, who is also an architect managing his own construction team, could not keep himself away from tourism, and so he changed their estate home Arumvale into a boutique country guesthouse.

Both George and Bev are active in Swellendam's town, church & civic life while contributing significantly to the development & upliftment of the town's less fortunate people through their job creation endeavours.

Grace & Merci

Bev has since leaving Rain, opened her own restaurant, Grace & Merci, situated on the main road opposite the Moeder Kerk in Swellendam with a homeware and gift shop adjacent.

Arumvale Self-catering

Arumvale Country House is a self-catering hospitality facility. Each suite has a fully equipped kitchen and comfortable dining table. A large refrigerator is provided in each suite with enough capacity for a family's food for several days. Each suite has a private veranda and a Weber kettle braai (BBQ). A generous amount of free firewood is provided for ourguest's use. Complementary tea, coffee and rusks are provided for your visit.

Note: please give us notice for late arrivals after 7 pm.
Guests can help themselves to eggs
Guests are welcome to pick fruit from the orchard and salad greens from the vegetable gardens

Swellendam

Swellendam has well-stocked supermarkets (Checkers,Shoprite U Save & Super Spar), which
are located in the commercial area of town, and a number of smaller shops selling supplies
for visitors.

SwellenMark Shopping Centre has a comprehensive range of retail shops and supermarkets. It is situated in the town centre
(34 Voortrek Street opposite the Spar) with parking accessible from the side streets.
